JOB SUMMARY: is responsible for the performance of a variety of microbiology tasks and laboratory examination of specimens and body fluids.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
2. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed at Microbiology Unit.
3. Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
4. Assures that all tests and procedures done in the Microbiology section are in accordance with the standard accepted practice.
5. Assure that all requests received in the Microbiology Section contain pertinent data needed for proper evaluation.
6. Process all specimens received for Microbiology and perform all laboratory examinations accurately and conscientiously.
7. Conduct chemical and microscopic analyses of urine, semi-automatic analyzer or microscope to detect abnormalities or diseases and enter findings into computer.
8. Obtain specimens, cultivate, isolate, and identify microorganisms using automated machines for analysis.
9. Inoculate broths or other bacteriological media with organisms.
10. Produces suitable slides for microbiological diagnosis and keeps an organized record of prepared slides.
11. Keeps an organized file of all microbiology reports.
12. Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean medical laboratory equipment.
13. Performs all clerical, typing, encoding of microbiology results.
14. Keeps organized specimen storage.
15. Assure that orderliness and cleanliness in the laboratory are maintained at all times.
16. Ensures proper wastes segregation and disposal.
17. Responsible for all quality and safety improvements related to her job.
18. Maintain a sufficient inventory of material supplies used in the micro section.
19. Perform other duties as assigned by senior lab technologist.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology course acquired through a health care institute (BSMT).
Certification: Medical Technologist by a nationally recognized boa and License as a Medical Laboratory Technologist by HAAD.
PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE: Requires at least 2 years of experience in the medical laboratory field.
