Key Responsibilities:
Product Curation & Trendspotting:
Leverage data analytics, market research, and industry reports to identify emerging product trends that align with our customer base.
Collaborate with design and merchandising teams to create product assortments that differentiate our brand from competitors.
Attend trade shows, industry events, and vendor meetings to stay ahead of trends and source new, exciting merchandise.
Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Management:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with both local and international suppliers, negotiating the best terms on price, quality, and delivery schedules.
Source ethically and sustainably, ensuring products meet company standards for quality, compliance, and responsible sourcing.
Inventory & Demand Forecasting:
Monitor sales performance, stock levels, and replenishment needs to ensure the right product mix and inventory turnover.
Use historical data and advanced forecasting models to project demand and adjust purchasing strategies to prevent overstock and stockouts.
Work closely with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure timely product delivery and resolve any sourcing challenges.
Financial Planning & Budget Control:
Build and manage category purchasing budgets, optimizing buying strategies to meet sales and margin targets.
Track and analyze product profitability, reviewing margin reports and adjusting future buys based on performance.
Sales & Profit Optimization:
Collaborate with the marketing and merchandising teams to create compelling promotional strategies that drive sales and enhance product visibility.
Analyze customer feedback, sales reports, and inventory turnover rates to refine the product assortment and improve the customer experience.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Partner with internal teams such as store operations, marketing, and e-commerce to ensure a seamless customer experience across all channels.
Coordinate with visual merchandising teams to ensure in-store product displays align with overall strategy and branding.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
Certifications in Retail Buying or Procurement are a plus.
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a buying, merchandising, or category management role, ideally within [industry-specific, e.g., fashion, beauty, grocery, or electronics] retail.
Proven experience negotiating with vendors and managing supplier relationships to achieve cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
Skills:
Advanced data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret complex sales data and market trends to inform buying decisions.
Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable terms and maintaining positive vendor relationships.
Proficiency in inventory management software and ERP systems.
Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Skills:
In-depth knowledge of global supply chain logistics and sourcing best practices.
A deep understanding of the competitive retail landscape, consumer behaviors, and pricing strategies.
Experience working with private label brands or exclusive product lines is a plus.
